Reginald Jaynes received his Ph.D. in the area of Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in the area of high power microwave tubes, and pulse power physics. Dr. Jaynes also holds an M.S. degree in E.E. as well as a B.S. in Engineering Physics. Presently Dr. Jaynes is presently employed with a major defense contractor, as an RF and Radar design engineer. His hobbies include electronics, physics, and alternative energy research.

Abstract

In order to achieve high power, high frequency and phase controllable fields for pushing the envelope of exotic and new physics experiments, Dr. Jaynes has designed and built high power switching power supplies to drive flat etched Tesla coils as well as other devices. These power supplies exhibit many interesting properties, in that when used with Tesla coils, they make tuning the primary coil no longer necessary. This in turn makes it possible to rapidly tune between different resonances of the coil, drive multiple frequencies at the same time, signal modulation, driving the Tesla coil off resonance, or even phase multiple coils together. These high power switching power supplies have application in driving many different devices as well, including high power ultrasonic devices, high frequency transformers, as well as RF coils and audio transducers. Demonstration of these devices in operation, including Tesla’s dream of wireless transmission of power, excitation of plasma, singing sparks, megavolt Marx generator, RF Levitation of coils and many other interesting experiments will be preformed.
